A 72-year-old woman fell out of bed in the hospital following brain surgery. After the procedure, the patient became disoriented. It was later discovered that the nurse caring for her likely set the bed alarm incorrectly.
Had the alarm been properly activated, it would have sounded and alerted the staff when the patient attempted to get out of bed. As a result of the fall, the patient struck her head and required emergency surgery to address head trauma.
