$6 Million – Carol L. Forte – Radiology Malpractice

By Michael Zerres

A 45-year-old single mother of three underwent a screening mammogram. Later that day, a radiologist reviewed the images and identified findings suggestive of breast cancer. However, the radiology technician at the imaging center mistakenly sent the patient a form letter stating that her mammogram results were normal, instead of notifying her about the concerning findings and the need for further testing.

Sixteen months later, the patient was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Despite undergoing years of treatment, including aggressive chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation, the cancer spread throughout her body. She ultimately passed away from the disease.

After a three-week trial, the case was settled for $6 million.
